NY Times article online dating (Feb 12)

Posted in Group:

The NY Times has an article about online dating. Apparently there is a study re online dating. A few excerpts from the article:

"For a fee, many dating sites will collect data about you, crunch the numbers and match you with someone who, as eHarmony puts it, has been “prescreened for deep compatibility with you across 29 dimensions.” ...
Likewise, dating sites don’t take into account the environment surrounding the relationship: factors like job loss, financial strain, infertility and illness....
wives who experienced relatively high levels of stress outside of their marriage tended to evaluate their marriage increasingly negatively over time....

For example, decades of research confirms that people tend to have troubled romantic relationships if they are emotionally volatile, were mistreated as children or abuse drugs or alcohol. "

Guess that really sinks the idea of online dating for me!!!!

(what I've noticed about one particular dating site I monitor is almost all the ladies want guys that have good to great incomes!!!)

Another post here and then time for my nightly bottle of Rum!!!

CK's got it right... Departure, I wanted to say that when we are depressed we can sometimes look for reasons in our lives to justify the sorrow we feel, justify our addictions or the harmful remedies we may come up with for dealing with how we feel. With dating, I like to think about it in simple terms....other's will like what you like about yourself. The profile matches are touch and go, but they are there to get you 'in the door' so to speak. A good to great income is nice, yes, but I'd like to see you focusing more on the qualities and strengths you do have ...it can be all too easy to despair and go down the rabbit-hole of hurt and pain. If you need to go there for a little while in order to feel what you are feeling, then that is okay...but make it time-limited and come back for air. Come back to thinking of a simple goal you have or to a thought of gratitude. Try this just for today, think about what you do have to offer for a few moments.

Warmly,
Kellie Montgomery< LMFT

CK and Kellie I KNOW THIS IS SG - positives, not negatives ...

Given my current living situation I cannot crawl into a bottle of rum the way I would like.

Re a rabbit hole, could that be a groundhog hole? We used to hunt ground hogs on a farm, the ground hogs only met up with a rifle shell when they reappeared.
Could I be so lucky as to have that fate?

Do you truly want to be hunted down or do you say these things for the shock value-this is not a judgement, just an honest question.
