to recover..... what does that word mean to you?

Posted in Group:

Today I woke up thinking about what that word means... this is the definition that is in the dictionary :

Recover -
to get back
To bring back to normal
To make up for
to find again
To hand over
To obtain
to restore to usefulness
To rescue

Every day I would like to discuss what each one of these definitions mean....

To get back.. wow..it would take me literally days to share about everything that I have gotten back over my years in sobriety. When I finally reached my bottoms and decided to get clean and sober, the only thing I had left was my ability to breathe. I had lost everything else. My family,my children,my friends, job, home, self respect, dignity and hope.
Today.. I can proudly say, I have "gotten back" everything that I had once lost...and have gained more than I ever dreamed of. The most important to me being me relationship with my children. There was a time when my daughter was so hurt and tired of the empty promises and lies that she would not speak to me. I wrote her letters and she would send them back to me unopened. She was done. Today, that very same child calls me her best friend and trusts her children to my care..... what a miracle!!!!

Please share with me and others what the words "to get back" mean in your life.....

I would love to get back the years I've lost being the person I am supposed to be and look forward slowly to cherish the love and respect I will gain from my family who have cried to me to give them the mother and wife I'm supposed to be! 'day at a time'!!..xx

Hi I also would love to have respect, honesty and love back. I have been sober for 6 days and have been drinking for the past 30. I am so embarressed at how I have acted and behaved. The past few days that has really hit me and part of me says"screw it ...drink" cause I dont want to think about it so that is why I have to take anti buse. I am very scared because I know I cant stop on my own. I now have to fess up on how I have been and all I do is think,,,think,,,think...the alcohol isnt there anymore. Anyways I am trying to look at the positive in my life and that is my family and job. So ya one day at a time!!!
